SARET TREASURES OF HOPE
WELCOME TO OUR STORE
SARET Treasures of Hope is pleased to announce its permanent location at
449 N. Main Street, presenting its eclectic and eco-friendly gift store. This one-of-a-kind store is located in beautiful downtown
Glen Ellyn, Illinois between Einstein Bagels and the prairie path.
HISTORY
The new store celebrates SARET's 26th year anniversary. SARET was founded in August 1985 to memorialize the suffering of a 2 year old toddler named Saret Yan who died of Aplastic Anemia complications in Wheaton, Illinois. Her illness put her family in grave economic jeopardy and their plight was somewhat alleviated by the help of many Wheaton residents. This model of grass roots aid to others became SARET's mode of operation. The organization has since helped thousands of families facing economic crisis like Saret’s family.
The charity chose twenty years ago to involve itself in both jewelry making and purchasing from cottage industries as one means of raising funds for its charitable operations. The new location combines retail which covers jewelry, apparel, natural snacks and drinks, nutritional supplements, environmentally-friendly household cleaners and body care alongside a smaller wholesale section. The jewelry program in itself is a model to other organizations working with residents who are no longer employable in mainstream jobs. SARET trains people with certain disabilities in both jewelry making and training combined with store management skills. We also offer beading classes to the community (ages 5-100), and birthday parties for girls and group activities to Girl Scouts and other youth groups. The store is also an oasis for local artists who can share their work through the store. We have displays of artists and photographers year round.
Fundraising with SARET Treasures of Hope: During the first week of each month, we run our Community Day’s program which involves sharing our proceeds with any local not-for-profit such as: churches, charities, youth groups, schools, a 10% of the total purchases made by the supporters for each group. We, however, can offer more substantial opportunities for fundraising by opening this inspirational store at a particular time (a day or a week) for an interested group. We offer up to 25% of the sales to that group.
Saving with SARET Treasures of Hope: Our store has consistently offered wonderful discount incentives throughout the year which have saved our customers 20-30% on their purchases. Everyone enjoys a 20% off on Tuesdays with no exception from now until the end of the new year. If in that week, we have better promotions, they can tap into those.
Why did we open this store? The plight of DuPage County, Illinois' poor is a grim one. Amidst affluence, there are people going to bed hungry, cold in winter, walking miles to work and too poor to afford transportation. They are referred to us all the time by other agencies that are limited by strict guidelines. Our mission is to provide emergency assistance with a focus on the working poor and the disabled. We are not equipped professionally at this time to help people with addiction challenges that face chronic unemployment. You may pick up our annual reports in the store which provide detailed information on the areas of aid we cover and how many people we serve in each category.
About our products line: We have divided our inventory between a jewelry line and a health-related line and are now offering a low cost high quality resale section at the downtown store. Presently we have a clothing line including Curio, Frank Lyman and Louben. That line will expand all the time based on customer feedback. We currently carry lines from Frontier Herbs, Aura Cacia, Terra Naturals, Nature Sunshine, Melaleuca, Energique, Energetix, Southern Herbs, Aroma International, Kuumba Made, and more. Our products are all natural, and we are vying for organic items to help those who are facing allergies and other health challenges. Many are already in the store and more will be added during the year.
Purchase returns policies: We accept returned merchandise within 30 days of purchase accompanied by a receipt for an exchange only or store credit. We will also repair our custom-made jewelry for a nominal fee. As you know, some jewelry will wear and tear with time and must be handled with care.
A special appeal on behalf of our transportation program: One of our most urgent needs at this time is for donated working cars for a large waiting list of over 150 desperate single parents and disabled residents. Our clients are spending almost half their income on transportation to and from work. Most of them are behind on their utilities and eat meagerly just so they can get to work. They can only receive limited aid from other agencies if any aid at all, putting a tremendous burden on our organization. By finding cars for these people, their economic burden will be substantially alleviated.
Beading Classes and Parties:
The joy of creating beautiful designs, is celebrated each day with our volunteers, staff and friends who drop in and bead with us. We have a number of aid recipients and clients who also join and help. Some attend daily, some weekly, some monthly. Their labor of love is what you see in this web site and throughout our store. ENJOY!
Our jewelry:
Our custom-made necklaces and bracelets can be made to fit a specific length. Earrings are sized accordingly to the size of the stones or crystals we supply. You may specify gold, silver, bronze, copper or gunmetal findings on your order by leaving a note in the shopping cart. We also use sensitive skin findings for an extra fee. We can also make any crystal jewelry in a variety of colors: from clear to red to black on the color wheel. Diane is also offering jewelry restringing and repairs at low cost to our customers. Stop in for information.
The Discounts:
When you buy a set of a necklace and earrings, you always receive 20% off the original price. Look for other discounts throughout the year on our site.
